National Assessment for Scientific
Temperament & Aptitude

National Assessment for Scientific Temperament and Aptitude (NASTA) is designed and developed for the elementary to middle school students. This is one of the primary initiatives under KAMP. This assessment is purely designed for students from various levels of socio-economic background. So, based on the state board/central board this platform can be adopted.

National Assessment for Scientific Temperament & Aptitude (NASTA) includes a range of specific subjects at grades 5th to 10th to provide a comprehensive look at the wide array of academic areas that are a part of a student’s education. Subjects include Science, EVS/Social Science, Mathematics and Digital Literacy/Computers/Information Technology. KAMP Planning & Monitoring Committee sets NASTA policy, determines the assessment schedule and what content should be measured.

NASTA is administered to students during regular school hours. Each student is assessed in defined subject areas. Students spend between 90 and 120 minutes taking the assessment.

Questions will be 40% from the current class syllabus and 60% from the previous class syllabus. 30% questions will assess the awareness of the students on the given subjects, 40% questions will assess knowledge level and 30% Higher Order Thinking Skills (HOTS).

NASTA will be administered in English, Hindi or other regional languages. Student responses on NASTA are private, and the privacy of each participating school and student is essential.

All students/schools of CBSE, ICSE/ISC and Other State Boards can participate in NASTA.

NASTA Nova

NASTA Nova is the basic level of KAMP where students will be assessed on academic level and scientific level. This is single paper assessment where the subject knowledge and scientific attitude are assessed.

Development of NASTA Assessment Framework

The National Assessment for Scientific temperament and Aptitude (NASTA) framework describes what skills and knowledge should be assessed in each subject area. The framework is developed by Academic Sub-Committee of KAMP Planning and Monitoring committee (KPMC) and individual assessment questions are developed, reviewed, and refined by educators, and experts. Survey questionnaires are also developed and administered as part of NASTA to contextualize the assessment results with student educational experiences.

The Academic-Sub Committee of KPMC is responsible for developing both the framework and test specifications that serve as the blueprint for the assessment. For each framework, the Academic-Sub Committee works with a committee of subject matter experts, practitioners, and members of the general public—including researchers, educators, business leaders, and policymakers—to develop a rich and rigorous set of standards that define what students should know and be able to do in a particular subject. In order to measure trends in student performance, NASTA frameworks are designed to remain stable for as long as possible.

At the same time, the framework is responsive to changes in national and international standards and curricula. Without advocating any particular approach to instruction, NASTA frameworks provide a starting point for constructive conversations about high-quality educational standards and assessments.

KAMP Planning and Monitoring Committee formed by CSIR-NISTADS approves all final frameworks and test specifications.

Objectives

  • Awareness among students on the latest developments in emerging technologies like Robotics, IOT, Artificial Intelligence etc.
  • Infuse a healthy competitive spirit through rewards, based on performance levels.
  • Present the data/analytics in observing young learners and deciding the extent to which they are engaged in the actions that indicate that process skills are being used.
  • To guide the evaluation and adaptation of activities, such that learners are likely to be involved in the actions described by the indicators.
  • To suggest how young learners can be helped to develop their process skills.
  • To indicate the kinds of tasks that can be used to assess students’ use of process skills.
  • Track and communicate Student progress
  • To create an index for schooling institutions
